Recognition of Prior Learning
If you have years of work experience, you may already have the skills to qualify for a nationally recognised Diploma or Advanced Diploma — without studying from scratch. That is what RPL is.
What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process through which a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) evaluates your existing knowledge, skills, and experience against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
RPL is not a shortcut. It is a legitimate, ASQA-regulated assessment pathway. The qualification you receive is identical to one earned through full study — same qualification code, same certificate, same weight with employers.
Typical duration
6–12 weeks
Diploma cost (typical)
$1,500–$4,000
Experience required
3–5+ years
Qualification outcome
Identical to study
